A Historical Investigation is a research model for studying the past. During this process you will find information online provided through links on this website. Next, you will gather the information on notes provided by your teacher, citing the sources you have found. This will ensure you are finding sources to back up your answer to the question. After gathering information, you will then evaluate what have found and write a short essay. After finishing your essay, you will analyze your research. You want to make sure you have cited your sources and followed the steps in the rubric. |
What Does it Mean to Cite Sources?

For this investigation you will be conducting research and writing short essay. When you conduct research, you find evidence in books, articles, web sites, and other sources that support your hard work. Any time you use information that you've collected, you must make a visible indication of this in your paper. You will do this with an in text-citation, or a footnote. The way that you cite your source will depend on the style of writing you're using, but the citation will contain some combination of the author's name, the title of the source, and a page number. For this assignment we will be using MLA format (Modern Language Association). You will not be required to cite your sources in-text, but instead you will list them in your bibliography.

A bibliography is a list of books, scholarly articles, speeches, private records, diaries, web sites, and other sources you use when researching a topic and writing a paper. The bibliography will appear at the end of your paper, and is sometimes called Works Cited or Works Consulted. Bibliography entries must be written in a very specific format, but that format will depend on the particular style of writing you use. As stated, for this investigation you will be using MLA (Modern Language Association).
